At Maggia by the River you can truly take in the view, relax and experience Switzerland in all its beauty.
Please note that this is a cabin in the woods with limited electricity, limited hot water and few comforts.
The house is on two floors; the dining/living room, the kitchen and the bathroom are on the ground floor. On the first floor two bedrooms with two single beds each can be found.
In the living room a fireplace can be used to provide additional heating while also enjoying the warm atmosphere given by the fire.
Outside of the house guests can access a spacious terrace with barbecue and a dining table, as well as the garden.
The property is truly charming and immersed in the nature; the area is quiet and highly recommended to anyone wishing to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Please note that this house is only accessible on foot and it takes 20 minutes from the other side of the river.
Hot water is only available when burning wood to power the boiler.
The supply of electricity is limited as it's given by a solar panel.
Firewood is provided free of charge.
Guests should park in Via Cimitero 11, walk across the Ponte Giumaglio (suspended bridge) and through the woods to reach the house. The walk takes 20 minutes and it's an easy path to take.
Just a few minutes walk from the house you can find the river Maggia with its natural pools, where guests can swim and relax in the summer.
Within a short walk from the house, guests can also visit the suspended bridge of Someo; with a length of 380m it's the longest of its kind in the Maggia valley.
North of the property, the Maggia valley offers abundant natural beauty such as the Val Bavona, the steepest and rockiest valley in the whole Alpine region (must see).
Additionally, cultural heritage sites such as the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista and the Walserhaus museum in Bosco Gurin are available to visit.
For those looking to hike, the Maggia valley is full of hiking trails and wonderful alpine lakes to discover.
South of the property is Locarno, one the hottest spots for tourists visiting the region in the summer, as a number of events such as the Moon & Stars concerts, the Locarno Festival of film and the Luci e Ombre fun fair take place.
During the winter guests can also drive 30 minutes and enjoy some skiing in the popular destination of Bosco Gurin; where 30km of ski slopes, snow shoe itineraries and kids village can be found.
You can drive to the property and park the car in the nearby public spaces free of charge (Via Cimitero 11).
Alternatively, from Locarno train station guests can catch the number 315 bus (direction Cavergno, Paese) and get off after 30 minutes at Giumaglio. From there you can walk for 20 minutes to the property across the suspended bridge (Ponte Giumaglio) and through the path in the woods.
